As the steward of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we engage comprehensively across all dimensions of space—offering inventive solutions that encompass satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil, and commercial clients.

At Aerospace, we prioritize fostering an inclusive and diverse environment where all employees can unite in our shared passion and ambition—executing a mission that transcends individual interests.

The Space Domain Superiority Directorate, part of the Special Programs Division, underpins a wide spectrum of Space Domain Awareness and Combat Power operations. Our scope spans the entire threat response continuum, from Space Domain Awareness functions to the multidomain effects essential for achieving space superiority. Our programs involve significant system acquisitions across various ground and space segments, future architecture definition at the data/software/hardware levels, and ongoing research and technology development aimed at the continuous enhancement of space warfare capabilities.

In the role of a Senior Satellite Systems Engineer (Senior Project Engineer-Systems Engineering - Acquisition and Systems Engineering), you will support the Advanced Concepts and Space Safari branches. The Space Safari program office is dedicated to the Tactically Responsive Space mission, delivering swift response solutions for military operations in response to evolving challenges in the operational space landscape. You will be integral to a team focused on devising solutions for the most demanding issues and implementing essential space control capabilities to ensure our nation's space superiority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the acquisition and integration of satellite systems, from initial concept through to deployment and operational phases.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including the Engineering and Technology Group (ETG) and X-Labs, to facilitate system development.
  • Establish system requirements and specifications in alignment with mission objectives and client needs.
  • Conduct trade studies and performance evaluations to enhance satellite system design and architecture.
  • Coordinate with government contracting officials to secure necessary components and subsystems.
  • Define criteria, engage in, and evaluate design reviews, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies.
  • Manage and collaborate with contractors and other FFRDCs on test plans and procedures for satellite integration, testing, and validation.
  • Provide system engineering and technical expertise to address system integration challenges during development and operational phases.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and industry best practices throughout the acquisition lifecycle.
  • Foster positive, enduring working relationships with senior management and all levels of customer and contractor personnel.

Qualifications for Success

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of systems engineering experience with a focus on space systems development and satellite acquisition.
  • Experience in spacecraft development, including design, construction, integration, and testing.
  • Strong understanding of satellite subsystems, such as payload, power, thermal, and attitude control systems.
  • Experience in evaluating designs for Mission Assurance.
  • Possession of a current Top Secret/SCI clearance issued by the US government.
  • Capability to obtain additional security clearances.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective teams and develop strong working relationships with various government partners and contractors.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills—clear, concise, and professional.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

It would be advantageous if you possess one or more of the following:

  • Demonstrated organizational and project leadership capabilities with the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams.
