POSITION OVERVIEW:
The role involves executing a variety of technical tasks and responsibilities associated with the preparation, packaging, distribution of medications, IV admixtures, and maintaining accurate records of pharmaceuticals and controlled substances.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducting technical functions related to drug distribution and IV admixtures.
- Maintaining comprehensive records for pharmaceuticals and controlled substances.
- Engaging in inventory management and ensuring the availability of medications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program or equivalent educational background.
EXPERIENCE:
Prior experience in patient care through a Pharmacy Technician program or a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a similar role.
CERTIFICATION:
Must hold current certification as a Pharmacy Technician and possess a valid license to practice in the state of Tennessee.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge and maintain clinical proficiency necessary for effective patient care and pharmacy operations. This includes:
- Filling patient medication orders and preparing pharmaceutical products.
- Transcribing and interpreting drug orders from patient medication records.
- Utilizing computer systems for pharmacy management.
Strong mathematical skills are essential for the accurate preparation and distribution of medications. Excellent interpersonal skills are required to communicate effectively with hospital staff, patients, families, visitors, and physicians in both routine and high-pressure situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Physical demands include constant standing, walking, lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling to perform necessary tasks. The role requires manual dexterity for compounding IVs and conducting data entry.
Light work is involved, necessitating the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amounts of force constantly to move objects.
