Library Clerk

Position Overview:
The Library Clerk is accountable for the daily operations of the library media center. This role involves supporting the library media specialist with administrative tasks, managing the circulation and organization of library materials, textbooks, and equipment. The position plays a vital role in advancing the objectives of the Library and Instructional Media Program, ensuring that patrons have access to library resources by offering technical support to the library media specialist, teachers, students, and other users.

Key Responsibilities:

Daily Operational Duties
  • Contributes to a welcoming atmosphere by maintaining the library's cleanliness, organization, and visual appeal; develops and sustains engaging library displays; provides reading recommendations by suggesting both fiction and nonfiction titles to students.
  • Assists in cataloging and managing the circulation of materials; oversees the circulation of library books, textbooks, instructional resources, and equipment; processes interlibrary loan requests and textbook transfers; prepares materials for educators and organizes shelving.
  • Helps generate reports to track obligations, including overdue items and inventory of library and textbooks.
  • Guides students and teachers in accessing online resources provided by the district.
Technology Support Responsibilities
  • Assists students with various technology-related inquiries.
  • Manages the assignment and check-out of devices to students; processes returns and repairs for malfunctioning devices; creates requests for device support.
  • Conducts troubleshooting for devices, including resets and connectivity issues; ensures devices are charged and functioning properly; collaborates with support services for complex issues.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of devices and accessories, ensuring all items are accounted for and in good condition; implements procedures for the return and distribution of devices.
  • Educates students on the proper care and use of technology devices.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required, along with one of the following:
    • Possession of an Associate's Degree or higher; completion of at least two years of college coursework; successful completion of the OGET test; or passing scores on the Parapro Assessment Test or Workkeys Assessment.
  • Effective communication skills for exchanging information, providing instructions, and responding to inquiries; ability to prepare written materials accurately.
  • Capability to learn and instruct others in the use of computer applications and online databases.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and patrons.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Must possess manual dexterity for writing and computer tasks.
  • Visual acuity is necessary for reading and interpreting materials.
  • Requires normal hearing and clear speaking abilities for effective communication.
  • May involve some physical activity, including lifting items up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work for extended periods in a seated position.
  • Occasional work outside standard hours may be required to meet organizational needs.
Work Environment:
  • Office tasks will be conducted in a well-lit, climate-controlled setting.
