Our objective is to assist students in cultivating appropriate social behaviors and achieving independent living skills through a supportive learning atmosphere and tailored behavioral programming. We are currently inviting applications for the position of 3rd Shift Life Skills Coach.
Position Summary:
Life Skills Coaches serve as direct support professionals, collaborating with students in Chileda's Short Term Empowerment Program (STEP). The role focuses on imparting essential life skills over a 6-12 month timeframe, encompassing social-emotional development, communication, educational support, leisure activities, daily living skills, and coping strategies. Coaches are responsible for executing behavior modification strategies as specified in the Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBPS) and work towards achieving Treatment Plan and IEP objectives with students through therapeutic care.
Employment Status:
We are actively seeking candidates for our 3rd shift, which covers the front half of the week from Sunday to Wednesday. Full-time positions come with a comprehensive benefits package offered by Chileda.
Required Skills:
- Ability to exhibit behavioral skills and judgment that promote appropriate role modeling for students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage students in meaningful activities by adhering to the student and area programming schedules.
- Clarify detailed expectations with students prior to transitions, activities, or events. Collaborate closely with the STEP Team to implement outing expectations and utilize community planning components.
- Guide students towards independence in completing chores and maintaining cleanliness after activities, daily living tasks, and meals.
- Foster professional therapeutic relationships with students, demonstrating effective communication skills while ensuring confidentiality in progress reporting. Model positive verbal and non-verbal communication consistently.
- Employ crisis management techniques learned in training, including verbal de-escalation, creative redirection, topic changes, and allowing time for processing during crises.
Educational Qualifications:
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience in direct support roles with individuals who have developmental disabilities is preferred. Candidates for this position should demonstrate a commitment to the intensive STEP program, emphasizing individualized approaches and opportunities for rapport building with each student.
