Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides both direct and indirect patient support under the guidance of the Nurse Manager, Patient Care Manager, Charge Nurse, or Team Leader.
  • Delivers care that showcases initiative, adaptability, and accountability, meeting professional expectations with minimal oversight.
  • Assesses care priorities based on the physical and emotional needs of patients, along with factors affecting patient flow.
  • Aids patients with fundamental care requirements and performs additional tasks related to patient well-being, adhering to established nursing protocols.
  • Administers treatments and various procedures (within their professional scope) as prescribed by physicians and directed by nursing staff.
  • Communicates effectively with Emergency Department physicians regarding changes in patient conditions, symptoms, and diagnostic results.
  • Responds promptly and accurately to alterations in patient status or treatment responses.
  • Undertakes monitor technician responsibilities as necessary.
  • Obtains vital signs with frequency tailored to the patient's acuity and condition changes.
  • Conducts venipuncture and initiates IVs.
  • Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection, ensuring proper labeling and transport of samples.
  • Applies cardiac monitoring as appropriate and conducts 12-lead EKGs.
  • Exhibits proficiency in managing cardiac emergencies, including medication administration, defibrillation, cardioversion, and non-invasive pacing.
  • Prepares sterile trays for suturing and other sterile procedures.
  • Inserts foley catheters when indicated and documents intake and output accurately.
  • Fosters collaborative relationships with MWHC Emergency Services Associates, physicians, and ancillary partners through effective communication and precise documentation.
  • Demonstrates competence in medication management and administration.
  • Performs splinting and applies orthopedic devices as per physician orders.
  • Executes specific respiratory therapy tasks, including ventilator setup and management, nebulizer treatments, and ABG sampling.
  • Shows competency in respiratory therapy treatments, monitoring end-tidal CO2, and preparing for intubation with necessary equipment.
  • Accepts accountability for professional development, regulatory compliance, and educational requirements at both MWHC and departmental levels.
  • Maintains necessary licensure or certifications throughout employment.
  • Performs additional duties as required within the scope of practice, including responsibilities of other team members.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Current Virginia State Paramedic Certification and/or National Registry.
  • CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications are mandatory.
