Position Overview: Patient Access Specialist
The Patient Access Specialist serves as the initial point of contact for patients and the community, ensuring the utmost safety and confidentiality of patient identities. This role encompasses responsibilities such as managing patient registration, verifying personal information, collecting insurance details, and accurately updating medical records. Key duties include scheduling appointments, processing orders, discussing financial options with patients, and maintaining precise medical documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional customer service and effective communication with patients, healthcare staff, and the public.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently.
- Conduct patient registration and basic insurance verification, ensuring accurate billing information.
- Safeguard the confidentiality of all patient records and accounts.
- Facilitate patient flow and promptly inform supervisors of any departmental or patient-related concerns.
- Answer phone calls with a professional greeting and assist callers in a courteous and helpful manner.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate Degree preferred but not mandatory.
Experience:
- Previous experience in patient registration or healthcare preferred but not essential.
- Familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous but not required.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong problem-solving abilities, basic computer proficiency, and typing skills (40 WPM) with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage professionally with both staff and patients.
- Basic mathematical skills.
