About the Role

The Principal Enterprise Systems Engineer is a key member of our IT team at Alaska Airlines, responsible for defining and implementing the long-term strategy for our enterprise platforms. This role requires a subject matter expert with a deep understanding of multiple technologies and a proven track record of leading cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a subject matter expert and thought leader on AAG platforms, providing guidance and support to technical teams.
  • Define long-term roadmaps and make decisions on tactical needs of the technical team.
  • Develop and maintain a deep technical understanding of server-side configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and integration.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support for critical issues affecting applications/infrastructure.
  • Lead cross-divisional enterprise infrastructure projects related to server platforms.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and Security to develop and plan platform architecture and security strategies.
  • Lead vendor management to better understand future capabilities and advocate for features beneficial to Alaska Airlines.
Requirements
  • 7 years of experience in IT or a related area.
  • Bachelor's degree or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Technical engineering experience required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrate experience in coaching and mentoring system engineers.
  • Experience estimating effort and establishing timelines for projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate with a variety of team members.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with VMWare vSphere 6.7 or later in a highly available configuration.
  • Experience with provisioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining Windows server 2012, 2016, and 2019 operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of related technologies such as Active Directory, DNS, GPO, IIS, HTTP, LDAP, NTP, PKI, etc.
  • Implement automation, effective monitoring, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Experience with Ansible, Azure DevOps, and GitHub is highly desirable.
  • Experience with scripting languages; specifically, PowerShell is highly desirable.
  • Experience with hosted cloud environments (Azure, AWS, Google) is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Cisco UCS, Dell, NetApp and Nimble hardware is a plus.
