Position Summary:
MedStar Medical Group is seeking a dedicated Certified Medical Assistant - Float to enhance our healthcare delivery. The successful candidate will possess certification as a Medical Assistant and demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills in patient interactions.
The Medical Assistant will undertake both clinical and administrative responsibilities within an outpatient care environment, working under the guidance of a physician or registered nurse. Responsibilities may encompass blood draws, administering medications and vaccines, monitoring and recording vital signs, and providing support during patient examinations, along with clerical and telephone assistance.
This role requires flexibility to operate across various practice locations, adapting to staffing needs and patient demand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist healthcare providers with patient preparation, office procedures, examinations, and patient education. Collaborate with the clinical team to manage patient flow and prepare for upcoming appointments. Assess patients for preventive care needs, ongoing support, and safety concerns. Conduct follow-up tasks for transitions of care and urgent needs. Engage in motivational interviewing to support disease management and community health outreach.
- Identify and report any actual or potential issues regarding patients, families, and staff. Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing care quality and safety. Attend training sessions focused on safety and infection control. Ensure compliance by maintaining logs, checking medication supplies, and keeping the environment organized. Engage in population management activities to support patient self-management and health goal setting.
- Conduct selected patient and laboratory tests. Document activities in the electronic medical record (EMR). Follow up on specific patient tests, including pap smears and other screenings. Collect and process specimens, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Assist with patient discharge and provide necessary support. Fulfill infection prevention duties as assigned. Maintain records of equipment maintenance and manage medical supply inventories. Conduct telephone screenings to gather patient information and determine appropriate actions.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) within one year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience in an outpatient medical office or similar setting.
- Preferred completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program and externship in a healthcare environment.
- For specific roles, additional experience or educational qualifications may be required.
