Responsible for delivering high-quality sleep diagnostic data to the sleep specialist to facilitate accurate diagnosis of sleep disorders.

Essential

Reviews patient medical history, allergies, and current medications.

Explains procedures to patients before, during, and after the sleep study.

Conducts patient setup: attaches electrodes and monitors according to established standards.

Observes patients via video for any unusual sleep behaviors. Records patient observations throughout the sleep study at designated intervals.

Ensures data signals are received on the computer, and all monitors are accurately recording data during the study.

Identifies normal and abnormal sleep patterns, interpreting physiological tracings and making timely decisions in emergency situations.

Knowledgeable about protocols for CPAP, BIPAP, and oxygen therapy.

Documents various aspects of the sleep study in accordance with established guidelines and generates accurate reports by compiling sleep/wake and clinical event data.

Performs all patient care duties in a manner that prioritizes patient safety and minimizes the risk of medical errors.

Demonstrates understanding of the different techniques and treatment modalities as applied to patients of all ages, from pediatric to geriatric.

Maintains and operates all Sleep Lab equipment safely and effectively. Inspects and tests Sleep Lab equipment to ensure safe and efficient functionality.

Additional

Collects artifact-free polysomnographic data; troubleshoots any artifacts and implements corrections.

Actively engages in performance improvement (PI) and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.

Attends a minimum of 90% of staff meetings annually and reviews all monthly staff meeting minutes.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served in the assigned unit or work area.

Understands growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age-specific needs. Effectively communicates and cares for patients and families as outlined in the Plan for Provision of Care.

Performs other duties as assigned.
