As a Substitute School Nurse, you will be responsible for providing temporary and emergency care for students and staff, serving as a health advocate, and coordinating health services on campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff, managing according to district policy and procedures.
  • Serve as a health advocate for students, notifying parents of accidents or illnesses and securing medical care as needed.
  • Coordinate a management system to administer medications to students at school, following district policy and procedures.
  • Perform screening procedures as required by the Texas Department of Health, Texas Education Agency, and district policy, making appropriate referrals as necessary.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the campus health program, implementing changes based on findings.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Certified by the Texas Department of Health to conduct vision, hearing, and scoliosis screening.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Valid Texas School Nurse Certificate.
Working Conditions

The Substitute School Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment, frequently traveling district-wide and exposed to biological hazards. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, the ability to interpret policies and procedures, and maintain emotional control under stress.
