Histology Technician

Job Summary
UNC Health Care is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join their team in Smithfield. This role involves performing medical tissue testing and administrative tasks in support of clinical activities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the instruction of Clinical Laboratory Science students, Pathology residents, and new employees, serving as a technical resource.
- Enter testing information into a computerized database.
- Investigate and resolve problems with equipment, patient results, specimens, and/or workflow.
- Participate in special projects or assignments, either individually or as part of a team.
- Prepare tissue slides by processing, embedding, sectioning, examining, and staining tissues received from various areas, including surgical pathology, autopsy, hematology, cytology, and research.
- Report test results to healthcare providers and consult with them regarding test results.
Requirements
An Associate's degree in biological, chemical, or a related science, with completion of CLIA required courses, or a NAACLS accredited histotechnician program is required. HT(ASCP) certification or eligibility within one year of hire date is also necessary. Relevant experience is required for Associate's degree holders, while NAACLS accredited histotechnician program graduates may be exempt.
