Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team at UNC Health Care. As a Histology Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting clinical activities by performing medical tissue testing and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare tissue samples for examination by pathologists to determine the cause of death, disease, and treatment.
  • Assist with instruction of Clinical Laboratory Science students, Pathology residents, and new employees.
  • Enter testing information into computerized databases.
  • Investigate and resolve problems with equipment, patient results, specimens, and workflow.
  • Participate in special projects and assignments as needed.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in biological, chemical, or related science, with completion of CLIA required courses, or NAACLS accredited histotechnician program.
  • HT(ASCP) certification or certification eligible by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) within one year of hire date.
  • One year of relevant experience for Associate's degree holders, or no experience required for NAACLS accredited histotechnician program graduates.
Work Environment

This is a per diem position with a variable work schedule. The successful candidate will be employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System.
