Job SummaryWe're seeking a skilled Radar Navigation Systems Engineer to join our team in Seattle, WA; Huntsville, AL; Denver, CO; Phoenix, AZ; or Reston, VA. As a key member of our Lunar Transportation business unit, you'll play a critical role in developing reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with our Navigation and Sensors Group to design and develop navigation radar sensors for various spacecraft and missions.
- Participate in the full design life cycle of navigation radar sensors, including design, development, analysis, testing, verification/validation, and flight.
- Work closely with our Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) team to integrate radar navigation system components with the rest of the GN&C.
- Contribute to the development of navigation and sensor hardware requirements, procurement, vendor coordination, delivery, acceptance, installation, verification, validation, qualification, and certification of component hardware.
- Perform and guide testing and analyses, such as flight test, thermal vacuum test, vibration test, etc., to validate top-level system specifications and requirements.
- Support the development and execution of component-level navigation test programs, including sensor characterization, sensor modeling, and integrated on-vehicle testing.
- Support hardware-in-the-loop testing, on-vehicle functional testing, and flight testing.
- Support the GN&C subsystem technical lead with a cross-functional mindset to facilitate subsystem and system level architectural decisions.
- B.S. in Aerospace Engineering or related technical discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience in development of spacecraft navigation systems or spacecraft avionics systems.
- Working knowledge of radar electronics, antenna, and front end for deorbit, descent, and landing operations.
- Experience with frequency modulated continuous wave and pulsed Doppler radar.
- Experience in sensor procurement, integration, and test support.
- Working knowledge of radio frequency (L, S, X, K band) navigation sensors and testing environments.
- Demonstrated experience in verification and test of navigation systems.
- M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent with 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with navigation systems that include measurements from IMU, GPS, radar, star trackers, and optical sensors.
- Experience in synthetic aperture radar design and implementation.
- Experience with high altitude and weak signal GPS.
- Detailed knowledge on EEE part selection for a variety of sensors.
- Knowledge in the development of planetary spacecraft navigation.
- Working knowledge of NASA human spaceflight standards.
