Job Title: Dietetic Technician, Registered

Suffolk County Department of Health Services is seeking a highly skilled Dietetic Technician, Registered to join our team in the WIC Program.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to provide nutrition education and counseling to WIC participants. The successful candidate will work closely with our nutrition team to ensure the efficient flow of nutrition and health assessment and education processes.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide nutrition education and counseling to WIC participants, including breastfeeding education and support.
  • Conduct nutrition assessments, update high-risk care plans, and provide participant-centered nutrition counseling.
  • Prescribe, tailor, authorize, issue, and re-issue WIC food packages and special formulas prescribed by healthcare providers.
  • Ensure the efficient flow of nutrition and health assessment and education processes.
  • Issue NYWIC EBT benefits, Verification of Certification (VOC) transfers to other WIC Programs, and seasonal Farmer Market Nutrition check booklets.
  • Perform anthropometric measurements of WIC infants, toddlers, preschool children, pregnant/postpartum women, and breastfeeding mothers.
  • Determine hematology (Hb: iron level) using HemoCue or Masimo to determine if WIC applicants are anemic.
  • Perform related work as needed and assigned.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from a college with federally-authorized accreditation or registration by New York State with an Associate's Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition and credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Registration as a Registered Dietetic Technician (DTR).
