Surgical Care Specialist Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Practice Professional to join our surgical team at WVU Medicine. As a Surgical Care Specialist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive and individualized care to surgical patients and their families in the inpatient and ambulatory settings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage comprehensive and individualized care for surgical patients and their families
  • Complete daily rounds, consults, and pre-procedure/surgical evaluations
  • Perform and communicate results of diagnostic tests following established clinical guidelines and scope of practice
  • Consult and communicate with clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings in patient evaluations
  • Develop and implement comprehensive individualized plans of care for surgical patients
Requirements:
  • Graduate of a CCNE accredited nursing program with Master's Degree in Nursing
  • National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers
  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia
  • Department Specific: APRNs requesting to be privileged as First Assists are required to complete RNFA certification
  • BLS Certification required with additional Advanced Life Support training at the discretion of the department
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ACNP or FNPs considered
  • Master's level degree as Physician Assistant preferred
