JEPIS Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced JEPIS Manager to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Joint Engineering and Physics Instrument Shop, including supervision of instrument makers/machinists, maintaining a safe and efficient work environment, and ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures.

• Supervise and manage a team of instrument makers/machinists to ensure efficient and effective production of high-precision components.
• Maintain a safe and organized work environment, adhering to all relevant health and safety protocols.
• Develop and implement short-term and long-term plans for the shop, including budgeting and resource allocation.
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and prioritize research and teaching needs, and develop strategies to meet those needs.
• Ensure compliance with university policies and procedures, including those related to safety, security, and equal opportunity.

• Minimum of 10 years' experience as a machinist or equivalent training.
• Class A toolmaker certification.
• Experience in assigning and following jobs to other machinists.
• Experience in the use of CNC equipment and software required for such instruments.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.

• Experience as a shop administrator or supervisor.
• Knowledge of machining procedures and proper safe set-ups.
• Personnel skills to supervise and train other machinists and students.
• Experience with CAD drawing and design.
