Aquatic Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Camp Program Director/Site Director, the Aquatic Supervisor will deliver direct services to participants in licensed camp programs. The primary responsibility of the Aquatic Supervisor is to act as a role model for youth, fostering positive interactions and engagement throughout the program while leading participants in age-appropriate aquatic activities.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Experience working with school-age children is required.
- Lifeguards must possess the qualifications mentioned above, along with current lifeguard certifications.
- Wranglers must meet the above qualifications and have 2 years of experience with horses.
- Tower/Ropes personnel must have the above qualifications and Alpine Tower Training/Ropes certification.
- Ability to perform moderate physical activities regularly, including climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, walking, and standing for extended periods. Must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds, demonstrating finger dexterity, grasping, performing repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and possessing visual acuity. Must be able to swim and pass lifeguard certification.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Exhibit a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment, motivation, and a desire to work with all ages, particularly youth.
- Demonstrate initiative in the absence of supervision.
- Ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of individuals in a friendly and consistent manner.
- Collaborate effectively as a team member while also being able to work independently and lead by assigned goals, duties, and deadlines.
- Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
- Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the YMCA.
- Attendance at New Employee Orientation is mandatory within 30 days of hire.
- Completion of Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid, KDHE Health History, Site Orientation, and other required training as per Conditions of Employment.
- Familiarity with all emergency procedures and action plans as necessary.
- Understanding and adherence to all policies and procedures set forth by the association.
- Availability to work a schedule that meets the needs of the branch, including weekends and evenings.
- Participate in all mandatory staff meetings and in-service training hours.
- Support and engage in scheduled program activities, supervise routines, and encourage youth participation.
- Remain actively involved with youth throughout the program, focusing on building relationships and serving as a positive role model in interpersonal communication, sportsmanship, healthy eating, and physical activity.
- Demonstrate the ability to set and maintain limits for youth using positive reinforcement techniques.
- Guide youth through conflicts to find constructive solutions and resolve disagreements respectfully.
- Maintain positive public relations with parents, guests, staff, and the community.
- Create a welcoming atmosphere by ensuring all participants receive a warm greeting and that children and parents are acknowledged by name.
- Communicate any issues or concerns to the direct supervisor promptly.
- Follow all reporting procedures for suspected child abuse, including immediate notification to the direct supervisor.
- Maintain open communication with the direct supervisor regarding training needs, clarification of responsibilities or policies, and feedback on performance.
- Actively participate in the annual campaign, including solicitation of donations and support for campaign fundraisers.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
