POSITION SUMMARY: Under the guidance of the Camp Program Director/Site Director, the Aquatic Supervisor will deliver direct services to participants in licensed camp programs. The primary responsibility of the Aquatic Supervisor is to act as a role model for youth, fostering positive interactions and engagement throughout the program while leading participants in age-appropriate aquatic activities.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:
  1. Minimum Age: 18 years
  2. Experience working with school-age children is required.
  3. Lifeguards must possess the qualifications mentioned above, along with current lifeguard certifications.
  4. Wranglers must meet the above qualifications and have 2 years of experience with horses.
  5. Tower/Ropes personnel must have the above qualifications and Alpine Tower Training/Ropes certification.
Physical and Mental Abilities:
  1. Ability to perform moderate physical activities regularly, including climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, walking, and standing for extended periods. Must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds, demonstrating finger dexterity, grasping, performing repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and possessing visual acuity. Must be able to swim and pass lifeguard certification.
  2. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
  3. Exhibit a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment, motivation, and a desire to work with all ages, particularly youth.
  4. Demonstrate initiative in the absence of supervision.
  5. Ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of individuals in a friendly and consistent manner.
  6. Collaborate effectively as a team member while also being able to work independently and lead by assigned goals, duties, and deadlines.
  7. Maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Commitment to the mission, vision, and values of the YMCA.
  2. Attendance at New Employee Orientation is mandatory within 30 days of hire.
  3. Completion of Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid, KDHE Health History, Site Orientation, and other required training as per Conditions of Employment.
  4. Familiarity with all emergency procedures and action plans as necessary.
  5. Understanding and adherence to all policies and procedures set forth by the association.
  6. Availability to work a schedule that meets the needs of the branch, including weekends and evenings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Participate in all mandatory staff meetings and in-service training hours.
  2. Support and engage in scheduled program activities, supervise routines, and encourage youth participation.
  3. Remain actively involved with youth throughout the program, focusing on building relationships and serving as a positive role model in interpersonal communication, sportsmanship, healthy eating, and physical activity.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to set and maintain limits for youth using positive reinforcement techniques.
  5. Guide youth through conflicts to find constructive solutions and resolve disagreements respectfully.
  6. Maintain positive public relations with parents, guests, staff, and the community.
  7. Create a welcoming atmosphere by ensuring all participants receive a warm greeting and that children and parents are acknowledged by name.
  8. Communicate any issues or concerns to the direct supervisor promptly.
  9. Follow all reporting procedures for suspected child abuse, including immediate notification to the direct supervisor.
  10. Maintain open communication with the direct supervisor regarding training needs, clarification of responsibilities or policies, and feedback on performance.
  11. Actively participate in the annual campaign, including solicitation of donations and support for campaign fundraisers.
  12. Perform all other duties as assigned.
IMPACT ON OUTCOMES: Ensuring that children feel valued and look forward to attending the YMCA program, while also ensuring that parents are satisfied with their children's growth and development, positively influencing overall program stability.
