Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Health Fitness Specialist to join our team at The National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS) as a substitute. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the management of our fitness amenities, including a pool, fitness center, and group fitness studio.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Group Fitness
    • Teach group exercise classes to members of varying fitness levels, adhering to safety guidelines and best practices.
    • Develop and lead engaging group fitness programs that cater to diverse interests and abilities.
  • Member Support and Services
    • Provide exceptional customer service to members, addressing their fitness and wellness needs, and offering personalized guidance and support.
    • Conduct fitness assessments and create exercise prescriptions tailored to individual members' goals and health status.
  • Facility Operations and Maintenance
    • Supervise the fitness center, ensuring a safe and clean environment for members.
    • Participate in facility maintenance and upkeep, including cleaning equipment and other areas as needed.
  • Special Events and Partnerships
    • Support special events, such as charity walks and races, to promote member engagement and community involvement.
    • Collaborate with other staff members to develop and implement events that enhance the member experience.
  • Professional Development and Compliance
    • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and best practices in fitness and wellness.
    • Maintain current certifications and training, including CPR/AED/First Aid, and adhere to NIFS' policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field or working toward a related degree.
  • Relevant work experience and training in fitness and wellness, with a focus on older adult clientele.
  • Ability to teach basic balance, chair exercise, and muscle conditioning group fitness classes.
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
  • ACSM and other industry certifications acknowledged.
  • May be required to submit to and successfully pass a thorough background check and/or drug screen.
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19, as a condition of employment, barring an approved exemption made subject to applicable law.
