Key Responsibilities
  • Collection Management: Oversee the daily care, feeding, and husbandry practices for the reptile collection, ensuring the health and well-being of all reptiles under your care.
  • Enrichment Programs: Develop and implement enrichment programs to promote natural behaviors and mental stimulation for reptiles in the collection, including environmental enrichment and training exercises.
  • Collaboration with Veterinarians: Work closely with zoo veterinarians to monitor the health of reptiles, coordinate medical treatments, and implement preventive health care measures as needed.
  • Breeding Programs: Develop and implement breeding programs for endangered or threatened reptile species within the collection, coordinating with regional and national breeding programs as applicable.
  • Exhibit Design and Maintenance: Collaborate with exhibit designers and maintenance staff to ensure reptile exhibits are well-designed, safe, and aesthetically pleasing, with appropriate enrichment and habitat features.
  • Record Keeping and Compliance: Maintain accurate records of animal care, behavior, and medical history using the zoo's database systems, and ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Public Engagement: Participate in public presentations, educational programs, and behind-the-scenes tours to engage and educate zoo visitors about reptiles, conservation, and wildlife issues.
  • Research and Conservation: Collaborate with researchers, conservation groups, and academic institutions on reptile-related research and conservation projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Zoology, Biology, Wildlife Management, or a related field is required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with reptile species, in a professional zoo setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role is required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License Class C at time of placement.
Working Conditions

This position is an essential service position and will require providing services during emergency situations. The successful candidate must be able to lift and carry heavy objects (minimum of 25-75 pounds), work outdoors in various weather conditions, and stand for extended periods.

Compensation

The salary for this position is $48,000 per year.
