Role Overview:
MEI is seeking a seasoned Substation Project Manager to play a pivotal role within our design team. This position involves overseeing multiple substation projects and coordinating with utility companies. The projects under this role will include substations featuring high and medium voltage electrical distribution systems for various data center campuses with an overall capacity exceeding 1000MW. This role demands a high level of collaboration among MEI personnel, clients, utility providers, vendors, and external disciplines, ensuring effective communication among all stakeholders to guarantee successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary liaison for key stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, managing design timelines, addressing concerns, and ensuring alignment with project objectives.
- Support clients, design teams, and construction teams throughout all phases of the project, including new constructions and upgrades.
- Assist in the design process by reviewing and understanding client design specifications to ensure all requirements are met.
- Lead and coordinate regular project meetings, including status updates and stakeholder discussions, ensuring effective communication and thorough documentation of decisions and action items.
- Help develop and maintain project plans and schedules, monitor project progress, and ensure compliance with timelines.
- Identify and escalate project risks and issues, proactively addressing challenges that may arise during the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary design team, owners, and contractors to create detailed drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate with external vendors, internal design teams, and manufacturers to ensure project success.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of project management experience, preferably with a background in Substation Engineering Design for Data Centers.
- Proven ability to effectively lead meetings, ensuring clear communication and thorough documentation of discussions and decisions.
- Experience working independently, managing priorities, and mentoring junior staff.
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to demonstrate flexibility in achieving long-term objectives.
- Self-motivated and comfortable with ambiguity, with a strong inclination to work collaboratively and lead others.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, BlueBeam, BIM, and Revit.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid Professional Engineer (P.E.) License.
- Valid Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience with high and medium voltage power distribution, physical design, and transmission line design is preferred.
