Rest Area Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:

The State of Oregon is seeking a skilled Rest Area Technician to join our team. As a fill-in position, you will be responsible for performing custodial, groundskeeping, maintenance, and security tasks to ensure the cleanliness and safety of rest areas for visitors.

This role requires a strong ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and to prioritize tasks effectively. You will be expected to maintain a high level of customer service, treating all individuals with respect and professionalism.

The ideal candidate will possess a combination of experience in facility maintenance, construction trades, landscaping, or similar work, as well as customer service experience. Preference may be given to applicants with skills in basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, janitorial, and groundskeeping.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform custodial, groundskeeping, maintenance, and security tasks to maintain the cleanliness and safety of rest areas.
  • Work independently, with minimal supervision, to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Provide excellent customer service, treating all individuals with respect and professionalism.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interactions with the public.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in a variety of environments, including indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to environmental and chemical hazards, allergens, and odors.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and occasional long hours on short notice.

Requirements:

  • At least six months experience in facility maintenance, construction trades, landscaping, or similar work.
  • At least six months experience in customer service providing information and assistance to the public.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and meet deadlines.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Skill in performing basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, janitorial, and groundskeeping.
  • Working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, asphalting, painting, and other construction knowledge or skills.
  • Excellent time management skills, including the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
