Job Summary:

The Custodian/Security role is vital in ensuring a secure and welcoming atmosphere for all personnel by maintaining the facilities and grounds in optimal condition. This position is accountable for cleaning various locations and safeguarding the premises of Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Execute custodial tasks as outlined in the nightly checklist and as directed by the Unit Leader/Manager.
  2. Ensure the security of the premises, which includes responding to alarms, inspecting doors, and monitoring parking areas for snow and ice.
  3. Remain vigilant for power outages, significant temperature fluctuations, water leaks, and promptly inform the Unit Leader/Building & Grounds Manager.
  4. Maintain restroom facilities with minimal complaints throughout the year.
  5. Limit all other complaints to a maximum of four annually, covering areas such as recycling, trash management, dusting, and vacuuming.
  6. Adhere to the preparation and safe usage of company cleaning solutions in accordance with company policy and Material Safety Data Sheets.
  7. Perform snow removal duties as required.
  8. Participate in scheduled OSHA training sessions.
  9. Complete additional projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and abilities:

  • Good hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.
  • Physical capability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, bend, reach, and stretch to perform manual tasks.
  • Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Proficient in handling hazardous materials relevant to the role.
  • Ability to read and interpret information on Material Safety Data Sheets and container labels, translating this into proper procedures in line with OSHA regulations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Flexibility to work hours as determined by Building & Grounds management.
  • Ability to effectively interact with external contacts, Brotherhood employees, managers, and departmental staff.

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with 0-2 years of experience in a custodial or security role. Familiarity with carpet and hard floor maintenance is preferred.
