Legal Investigator

About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Investigator to conduct investigations and assist in the preparation and presentation of criminal and civil actions. As a Legal Investigator, you will be responsible for:
- Coordinating and conducting investigations for civil and criminal matters
- Preparing and conducting cases
- Making detailed investigations and conducting fact-finding of the circumstances, facts, and conditions connected with cases
- Conducting legal research
- Interviewing witnesses, complainants, and other individuals
- Gathering and securing evidence in the form of affidavits, statements, documents, records, exhibits, photographs, electronic data, and other media
- Preparing comprehensive reports
- Testifying at hearings, administrative and civil proceedings, or other criminal or civil proceedings
- Examining, auditing, and analyzing records for possible violations
- Assisting state civil and criminal authorities in preparing state cases for trial
- Maintaining liaison with federal, state, and local officials and with members of the public and their attorneys
- May research and compile economic data concerning industrial and commercial activities
- May prepare and conduct cases for civil adjudication before the appropriate authority
- May subpoena witnesses and locate individuals
- May conduct undercover investigations
- May coordinate and direct field investigations in conjunction with other state criminal and civil authorities
- May secure hearings
- May provide technical assistance relating to agency field of expertise
- May maintain confidentiality of records as required by law
- May inspect voting machines, election documents, and review procedures on investigation of contested elections
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Considerable knowledge of relevant state laws and regulations; investigatory methods and techniques; rules of evidence and legal processes
- Knowledge of common business practices; financial accounting
- Considerable interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; interviewing skills
- Considerable ability to gather and interpret statistical and narrative data
- Ability to utilize computer software
