Position Title: Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician

Employment Status: Nonexempt

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent for District Operations

Department: Maintenance

Primary Objective:
Under general supervision, the HVAC Technician is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and installation of heating and air conditioning systems across the district. This role ensures the safe operation and condition of all HVAC systems within district facilities.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license
- Universal Certification from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Federal Clean Air Act Section-608
- Required experience in commercial HVAC

Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficient in HVAC repair, maintenance, and installation techniques
- Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical documentation
- Strong mathematical skills for calculations
- Capable of diagnosing and resolving HVAC issues
- Proficient in using hand and power tools

Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years in the HVAC industry

Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance and Repair:
  1. Diagnose and rectify malfunctions in various heating and air conditioning systems. Repair, replace, or calibrate controls such as thermostats and switches.
  2. Install new heating and air conditioning systems and components, as well as relocate and expand existing HVAC systems as necessary. Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and piping according to code specifications, connecting motors, compressors, and controls as per wiring schematics.
  3. Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all HVAC equipment, including filter changes and cleaning of condensers and coils. Conduct duct cleaning and air quality assessments as required.
  4. Complete work orders, select materials, estimate costs, and maintain accurate records of materials and labor used.
  5. Inspect completed jobs to ensure cleanliness and compliance.
  6. Manage inventory of district-owned tools and equipment, including maintaining coolant dispensing records to meet federal regulations.
  7. Assist the energy manager in conducting energy conservation surveys to optimize HVAC energy efficiency.
  8. Respond to emergency calls as necessary.
Safety Responsibilities:
  1. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, ensuring they are in safe working condition.
  2. Adhere to established safety protocols and techniques while performing job duties, including lifting and climbing.
  3. Identify and correct unsafe conditions in the work area, reporting any issues that cannot be immediately resolved to a supervisor.
  4. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

None

Physical and Environmental Demands:
Tools/Equipment Used: Electrical measuring and testing equipment, welding tools, hand tools, power tools, hoists, light trucks or vans.
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders, grasping, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis.
Environment: Work both indoors and outdoors, on uneven surfaces; may work on rooftops; frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, chemicals, noise, and electrical hazards; may work in confined spaces and irregular hours.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
