Proterra is in search of a skilled Systems Engineering Manager with expertise in hardware, software, and control systems to spearhead our Systems Engineering and Cell Engineering divisions. Key Responsibilities - You will:
- Establish a strategic vision for Systems Engineering at Proterra, encompassing architecture, requirements, data management, and cell engineering.
- Assemble and oversee a Systems Engineering team to effectively address the organization’s needs across architecture, requirements, data, and cell engineering sectors.
- Define, manage, and publish requirements for the development of battery systems and associated components and subsystems.
- Assist testing and validation teams in verifying and validating system requirements.
- Contribute to the definition of battery system architecture, diagnostics, and algorithm development.
- Facilitate the selection, integration, and validation of battery cells into our systems through requirements definition, characterization, and algorithm development.
- Assist in the development of DFMEA, hazard and risk assessments, technical safety concepts, and other safety analysis documentation.
- Support technical design leads in translating system requirements into the design of battery systems and components.
- Oversee the execution of characterization tests, data analysis, and the creation of test reports.
- Collaborate with Chief Engineers and Product Managers, along with hardware, software, and validation teams to ensure the successful implementation and validation of new features, components, behaviors, and control algorithms.
- Provide troubleshooting assistance for battery system issues arising in the lab, field, and manufacturing environments.
- Assist in the execution of battery characterization tests, data analysis, and report generation.
- Offer integration support for battery application projects, including technical feasibility studies, interface documentation, system simulations, and troubleshooting integration challenges.

- Over 10 years of engineering experience in the automotive or energy storage sectors, with a preference for experience in electric vehicles.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, etc.), with an advanced degree preferred.
- Familiarity with systems engineering practices and requirements management tools.
- Experience across multiple engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, controls).
- Proven track record in building and mentoring multidisciplinary engineering teams.
