Job Summary:

The Director of Internal Audit will be responsible for leading the Internal Audit Department to ensure that audit work fulfills the general purposes and responsibilities established in the Internal Audit Charter. The successful candidate will have a strong background in auditing and risk management, with experience in managing internal audit teams and developing audit plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an annual audit plan that addresses audit, risk, and compliance issues
  • Conduct audits of financial, administrative, information systems, and operational policies and controls
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and risk management processes
  • Review and approve internal audit reports and present findings to the Audit Committee
  • Coordinate external audit efforts and ensure adequate audit coverage
  • Develop and implement audit procedures and practices to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Provide training and guidance to audit staff on audit procedures and best practices
  • Assist in the design and implementation of internal audit's control testing as part of compliance with the NAIC's Model Audit Rule

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in auditing, with 3-5 years in internal audit at a management level
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Designations of Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) required
  • Professional designations and work experience in information systems auditing, property/casualty insurance, life insurance, and nonprofit and cooperative accounting practices preferred
