POSITION SUMMARY

The Practical Nursing Specialist (PNS) plays a crucial role in delivering patient care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Under the supervision of Registered Nurses, the PNS directs and facilitates patient education activities based on their qualifications and demonstrated competencies. The PNS utilizes the established medical record system throughout their responsibilities.
  • Assists in evaluating the physical, psychological, and social aspects of patients in both healthcare and housing units under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
  • Collaborates in the planning and execution of individualized treatment programs by leveraging available resources and consulting with registered nurses, physicians, and correctional staff.
  • Administers medications and interventions as per the medical plan and provider instructions.
  • Documents nursing interactions, patient responses, effectiveness, and complications, communicating relevant information to supervisory personnel and physicians in line with provider orders.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of working and living areas and supplies.
  • Functions as a member of a nursing care and treatment team, assisting physicians as required.
  • Utilizes in-house resources and departments for treatment and consultation.
  • Implements clinical and technical care aspects according to established policies and procedures.
  • Monitors vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure).
  • Applies and changes dressings as necessary.
  • Upon receiving appropriate training, performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The following qualifications are the minimum requirements. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
LICENSURE: Current, unrestricted State Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) License

CERTIFICATION: Current CPR Certification

EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited nursing program

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of clinical experience; correctional experience is preferred
