Process Engineer Job Description

Stantec's Water business is seeking a highly motivated Process Engineer to join our team in California. As a Process Engineer, you will work independently on smaller projects and as a team member on larger projects, collaborating with project managers to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer systems or products for a project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the growth and development of the water and wastewater teams across various market sectors.
  • Perform complex engineering design tasks on assigned projects, including design basis development, engineering calculations, engineering drawings, engineering specifications, and client presentations.
  • Develop designs through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Provide leadership and direction for the proper execution of engineering deliverables for various projects, proposals, and studies.
  • Assist with establishing technical and performance standards for projects.
  • Assist project managers with developing and managing project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.
  • Lead preparation and coordination of project specifications with construction documents.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own products and facilitate independent technical review of projects.
  • Review contractor/vendor submittals for adherence to Contract Documents and industry standards.
  • Assist with the management of the design and construction of projects.
  • Be involved in the permitting process of projects, which may require meeting with clients, contractors, and reviewing agency personnel.
  • Research and understand issues related to regulatory and other drivers that impact individual projects.
Qualifications
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to perform hydraulic calculations.
  • General understanding of all phases of project document production, client procurement procedures, and regulatory approval processes.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team settings and engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients, contractors, equipment suppliers/vendors, funding agencies, and reviewing agencies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam/Adobe.
  • Experience with software, such as Fathom, Hysys, Biowin, is a plus.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Chemical or Civil/Environmental/Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • A Professional Engineering designation in State of California or ability to obtain one within one year of employment.
