Position Title:

Surgical Services Technologist

Compensation:
$40-$46/hr

Work Environment:
Healthcare facility

Shift:
Daytime

Hours per day: 12 hours

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview:

We are in search of a proficient and committed Surgical Services Technologist to join our surgical team. As a Surgical Services Technologist, you will be integral in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and success of surgical operations by assisting surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in the operating room.

Your expertise in preparing and maintaining the surgical environment, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, and providing surgical instruments and equipment will significantly contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up the operating room for surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterile, functional, and readily available.
  • Support surgical team members in donning sterile gowns and gloves, maintaining a sterile field throughout the procedure to prevent infections.
  • Anticipate the surgeon's needs during procedures by providing appropriate instruments, sutures, sponges, and other supplies promptly.
  • Prepare and manage surgical specimens according to established protocols, ensuring accurate labeling and documentation for pathology analysis.
  • Assist with patient positioning and draping for surgery, considering their comfort, safety, and adherence to surgical principles.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of surgical procedures and techniques, including the use of surgical instruments, equipment, and technology.
  • Operate surgical equipment and instrumentation under the surgeon's direction, ensuring proper setup, functionality, and maintenance throughout the procedure.
  • Collaborate with surgical team members to facilitate communication and coordination during complex surgical cases, promoting teamwork and efficiency.
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs, fluid intake and output, and other relevant data during surgical procedures, alerting the surgical team to any changes or concerns.
  • Adhere to established safety protocols and infection control practices, including the proper handling and disposal of biohazardous materials and sharps.
Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or an equivalent certifying body.
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technology program or a comparable combination of education and clinical experience.
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, and sterile technique, with the ability to anticipate the surgical team's needs.
  • Proficiency in preparing and maintaining a sterile field, handling surgical instruments and equipment, and assisting with surgical procedures across various specialties.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in a dynamic environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in performing surgical tasks and documenting patient information.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing circumstances and prioritize tasks efficiently amidst the demands of the operating room environment.
