Job Summary:

The Optomechanical Engineer will design and develop complex optical systems for new product introduction and optomechanical tooling in support of transfer-to-manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with development engineers to create innovative optical systems for new product development.
  • Develop thermal management strategies for industrial and scientific instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with gas flow and pressure stability for sample measurements is a plus.
  • Document and release designs into PLM systems, structure BOMs, and write ECOs to release new designs.
  • Execute and refine build sequences specific to laser alignment, optics integration, optics alignment, and system calibration.
  • Interact with other design teams to adhere to design objectives and support the transfer of products/technologies for release to manufacturing.
  • Participate in concept development, proposal quotes, detailed design, configuration definition, verification, qualification, manufacturing specification, and documentation of engineering activities.
  • Test and qualify optical components and modules, and work with suppliers to improve incoming material quality and acceptance.
Requirements:
  • B.S. with at least 7+ years of relevant working experience in Mechanical or Optical Engineering, or relevant science fields.
  • M.S. with at least 5+ years of working experience in Mechanical or Optical Engineering or relevant science fields preferred.
  • Relevant laser industry experience, a plus.
  • Expert proficiency in Solidworks software package.
  • Familiarity with Arena PLM is a plus.
  • Understanding of system level interactions between optics, electronics, and mechanical parts to enable effective problem solving at the system level down to the individual piece part level.
  • Able to communicate effectively with peers, interdisciplinary engineering groups, customers, vendors, and across cultures.
  • Able to give effective technical presentations up to the Product Life Cycle (PLC) level.
  • Able to test and qualify optical components, electronics, modules, and work with suppliers to improve incoming material quality and acceptance.
  • Able to read technical drawings, understand BOMs, and use a variety of precision testing and measuring instruments.
