Water and Sewer Maintenance Technician

Position Overview: The Utility Worker I is responsible for performing skilled maintenance and construction tasks related to water and sewer systems. This role involves repairing, replacing, and installing essential infrastructure components such as water and sewer pipes, fire hydrants, and more. Key responsibilities include making water and sewer connections, repairing and elevating manholes, and assisting with sewer line maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and repair of water and sewer lines.
- Maintenance and clearing of right-of-ways.
- Operation of various work vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks, backhoes, and pipe saws.
- Assistance with hydrant and valve maintenance.
- Routine carpentry and painting tasks.
- Support for pump station repairs and maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should possess a basic understanding of standard office practices and equipment, including GIS systems, as well as proficiency in business English, spelling, and arithmetic. The ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, as well as independently, is essential. Candidates must be willing to obtain certifications in NIMMS training, 16-Hour Asbestos Operation and Maintenance, Intermediate Work Zone Safety, VDOT Flagging, and Confined Space.
Additional Requirements: Candidates must be able to train in the use of construction equipment for the installation and repair of water and wastewater utility systems. The ability to wear a respirator in specific situations is necessary, and candidates must possess or acquire a CDL, Class A within six months. No prior experience is required, as training will be provided. A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory. Availability for stand-by, emergency response duties, and overtime is required.
Compensation: Starting salary range is $39,359 - $47,230.
