About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Therapeutic Recreation Specialist to join our team at Rehab Without Walls Neuro Rehabilitation. As a key member of our rehabilitation team, you will play a vital role in helping our clients achieve their goals and improve their quality of life.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate recreation activities, functional leisure skills, and leisure education to meet the needs of our clients.
  • Assess the capabilities, interests, and barriers of our clients to develop personalized treatment plans.
  • Monitor progress and make recommendations for changes or modifications to the program as needed.
  • Consult with physicians and other members of the rehabilitation team to ensure that therapeutic recreation goals are aligned with overall treatment plans.
  • Coordinate activities with staff and the rehabilitation team, and participate in care planning meetings.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community service organizations to access resources for recreational programs.
  • Design community reintegration activities to support clients with physical and cognitive needs during recreational activities.
  • Provide training to clients and staff on various topics, including leisure education and functional skills.
  • Document progress and results of training activities.
  • Perform thorough evaluations to assess client needs and set measurable objectives in conjunction with the rehabilitation team.
  • Adjust treatment plans to achieve maximum results.
  • Report progress to the rehabilitation staff, clients, and family members.
  • Observe, document, and report changes in client condition to the Clinical Coordinator and other treatment team members as needed.
  • Provide treatment progress and status documentation in accordance with the Plan of Treatment.
  • Participate in team meetings, provide input, and contribute to effective treatment strategies.
  • Develop, teach, and assess the plan of treatment, and guide the Rehabilitation Specialist/Certified Nursing Assistant in fulfilling the plan.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Collect and document items necessary for program evaluation and improvement.
  • Attend and participate in internal staff development programs, and maintain and enhance clinical practice skills.
Requirements
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification is required.
  • The candidate must successfully complete any required pre-employment evaluation tests.
  • Good organizational and communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation Therapy or equivalent, plus a minimum of two years of therapeutic therapy experience.
  • Knowledge of complex neurologic injury and orthopedic rehabilitation techniques is generally required.
  • Knowledge of therapeutic recreation program design and the ability to obtain National Therapeutic Recreation Specialist certification within one year of employment is required.
  • Maintain professional license and/or certification as required by the state in which the therapist practices.
