Principal Accountant for Fund Management

Overview:

The Principal Accountant is tasked with ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial records related to assigned grants.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversees and conducts monthly financial assessments to effectively manage grant-related financial activities, ensuring compliance with funder and agency standards.
  • Develops budget analyses and forecasts for cost-driven grants, collaborating with program teams to meet objectives for performance-oriented grants. Maintains an accurate and up-to-date budget module.
  • Prepares and reviews financial statements for submission to funding organizations.
  • Creates budget proposals, modifications, and renewal budgets.
  • Establishes audit timelines and coordinates with funders for audits, preparing corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Maintains comprehensive and precise grant documentation, ensuring the financial system reflects the latest information.
  • Processes requests for advances on new contracts and follows up on outstanding payments.
  • Reconciles receivables and income generated from both public and private sources.
  • Handles salary and other allocation adjustments.
  • Educates program staff on the correct categorization of expenses and ensures accurate expense coding.
  • Timely reconciles and closes grants.
  • Prepares cash flow forecasts for service income.
  • Conducts cost analyses and projections for fundraising initiatives.
  • Responsible for the prompt transfer of expenditures between funds, cost allocations, and other financial schedules.
  • Participates in training sessions to stay updated on changes in funder requirements.
  • Assists in onboarding and training new Staff Accountants.
  • Provides support to the Accounting Manager/Senior Director and serves as backup for team Staff Accountants.
  • Engages in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of one to three years of accounting experience is essential.
  • At least one year of prior experience with grants is preferred.
  • Three years of accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related discipline is required.
Knowledge and Skills:

Essential:
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities are crucial.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Word is necessary.
  • The capacity to operate under tight deadlines while managing multiple responsibilities is vital.

Compensation: Annual Salary Range: $62,750.00
