Position Summary:

The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) for the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program plays a crucial role in shaping the clinical education framework. This position entails the development, scheduling, and assessment of the clinical education curriculum tailored for the PTA Program. The DCE holds a faculty position with a blend of administrative, academic, and service obligations aligned with both classroom and clinical education standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Education Management:

  • Collaborate with the PTA Program Director to ensure adherence to CAPTE (The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education) and ABHES (Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools) standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of CAPTE standards focusing on clinical education.
  • Establish and secure new clinical affiliation agreements with potential PTA clinical sites to fulfill program requirements.
  • Strategically plan, develop, coordinate, and enhance the clinical education curriculum and practices for the PTA program.
  • Stay informed about changes in healthcare delivery systems and trends affecting PTA student enrollment, instruction, and curriculum design.
  • Engage in student recruitment activities and maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders to address academic and non-academic challenges.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical education faculty to cater to the diverse learning needs of PTA students.
  • Oversee and update all clinical facility affiliation contracts.
  • Coordinate clinical affiliation schedules for students and ensure proper communication with clinical site staff regarding student responsibilities.
  • Ensure that clinical education instructors provide adequate supervision and constructive feedback to PTA students during clinical rotations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of clinical education experiences for all PTA students.
  • Facilitate discussions with clinical education site staff and faculty regarding student progress and site development.
  • Assist in the preparation of accreditation reports and evaluations of the clinical education program.
  • Monitor student academic outcomes to ensure successful clinical learning experiences.
  • Participate in relevant regional, state, and national clinical education forums and committees.
  • Travel to clinical facilities as necessary.
  • Adhere to applicable laws and regulations governing physical therapy assistants.

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Participate in commencement exercises.
  • Design and deliver instruction for PTA program courses in areas of expertise.
  • Evaluate student progress regularly to ensure achievement of curriculum objectives.
  • Maintain PTA course syllabi and learning competencies.
  • Keep accurate attendance and grading records.
  • Monitor student attendance patterns using relevant management software.
  • Offer academic support and tutoring during scheduled office hours.
  • Contribute to PTA program curriculum development and review academic policies.
  • Organize and facilitate Program Advisory Committee (PAC) meetings for the PTA program.
  • Review PAC meeting outcomes and implement suggestions for program improvement.
  • Engage in professional development activities as approved.
  • Manage a class or cohort of at least 40 students.
  • Continuously seek to enhance instructional quality through diverse teaching techniques.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of a CAPTE accredited physical therapist or physical therapist assistant program; minimum of an associate degree (bachelor's degree preferred).
  • At least three (3) years of full-time, post-licensure clinical practice.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Site Coordinator of Clinical Education (SCCE) or Clinical Instructor (CI) in physical therapy, or two years in teaching and curriculum development within a physical therapy program.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications; experience with CampusVue is preferred.
