Position Overview

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the hospice setting plays a vital role in delivering compassionate care to patients. This position is essential in ensuring that personal care services are provided effectively to meet the unique needs of each patient.



Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver personal care services promptly based on patient assignments.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families while maintaining confidentiality and respect.
  • Ensure patient safety by using equipment properly and adhering to safety protocols.
  • Provide personal hygiene assistance, including bathing, grooming, and changing bed linens.
  • Assist patients with dressing and undressing as required.
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals, including grocery shopping when necessary.
  • Support patients during mealtime as assigned.
  • Monitor and document vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and blood pressure, as directed.
  • Observe and report any changes in the patient's condition to the supervising nurse.
  • Assist with mobility and exercises as instructed by healthcare professionals.
  • Help with self-administered medications in accordance with state regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the patient's living area and assist with light laundry duties.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to organizational standards.


Qualifications

  • Completion of state-required training and certification.
  • At least 75 hours of classroom instruction and practical training.
  • A minimum of six months of experience in providing personal care.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to follow written instructions and document care accurately.
  • Understanding of hospice care principles and comfort in providing care to terminally ill patients.
  • Strong references from previous employers.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
