Occupational Therapist

As an Occupational Therapist, you will utilize goal-directed activities, exercises, and techniques to maximize clients' functioning in life tasks. This will involve the therapeutic application of physical and chemical agents as an adjunct. You will evaluate patients' abilities and needs, establish a plan of care, and set goals to achieve the highest possible level of functional independence and reduce disability for each patient. The position reports to the Director of Physical Medicine and Rehab.

• Perform initial evaluations, re-evaluations, and treatments for Swing Bed patients.
• Break down activities into achievable components, such as sequencing a complex task like cooking a meal.
• Provide performance skills assessments of each patient and treatment, focusing on areas like grooming, oral hygiene, bathing/showering, toilet hygiene, dressing, and feeding/eating.
• Recommend adaptive equipment and provide usage training.
• Effectively use creative media as therapeutic activity.
• Give guidance to family members and caregivers.
• Perform environmental adaptations, including providing equipment or designing adaptations to remove obstacles or make them manageable.
• Develop a monthly activity calendar that is meaningful and pertinent to the Swing Bed unit.
• Instruct new ways to approach ADL tasks with patients.
• Develop and maintain a clinical affiliation with local community colleges of Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant programs, participating in mentoring and education of COTA students assigned to Ellenville Regional Hospital.
