Position Overview
Under close supervision and training, the Animal Care Specialist will be responsible for the daily management and care of animals within the university's research facility, adhering to established protocols and complying with relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate sterilization and cleaning equipment for animal housing.
- Follow established animal care and housing procedures as outlined by departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and institutional policies.
- Ensure proper identification, feeding, and daily observation of animals.
- Conduct daily health assessments of animals and maintain accurate husbandry records to ensure optimal research conditions.
- Assist veterinary technicians with medical treatments as required.

Animal Welfare Compliance
Maintain the health and well-being of animals in accordance with The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, as well as local, state, and federal legislation, and guidelines established by AAALAC. A thorough understanding of animal welfare and related legislation is essential.

Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A valid driver's license is also necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in handling and caring for animals is desirable.

Compensation
The anticipated pay range for this position is $22.00 per hour.

Additional Information
- Weekend work is required.
- External candidates may need to complete a probationary period.
- Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be necessary.
- Travel to various worksites may be required.
- This position entails a 40-hour work week and is part of a bargaining unit.
