Position Description

The School of Biological Sciences at UC San Diego has occasional openings for temporary non-tenure track instructors (Unit 18) throughout the academic year. Lecturers are typically sought for undergraduate courses in various biological disciplines, including Physiology, Metabolic and Structural Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Microbiology. Laboratory courses also require instructors for Introductory Biology Lab, Recombinant DNA Techniques, Biochemical Techniques, Animal Physiology Lab, Microbiology Lab, and Bioinformatics Lab. Knowledge and/or demonstrated ability to address the educational needs of a diverse student body, including effective teaching strategies for advancing underrepresented groups in higher education, is highly valued. Appointees must adhere to School guidelines, deadlines, and policies regarding course scheduling and may need to exhibit flexibility in class scheduling due to limited classroom availability during standard hours. Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application)

Ph.D. in Biology or a related discipline (ABDs will be considered), or an equivalent combination of education and at least 0.5 years of teaching assistant experience, guest lecturing, teacher training, or relevant field work, including graduate and postdoctoral training.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with research or college-level teaching experience pertinent to the courses they wish to teach. Prior college-level teaching experience is strongly preferred; this experience may include roles as a teaching assistant.
