Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Sector is currently seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Global Surveillance Division, working alongside a team of skilled and diverse professionals.

This role will be based in Melbourne, Florida. Responsibilities encompass deploying, automating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing the systems and software infrastructure to ensure optimal performance.

The position necessitates hands-on technical expertise and a proactive approach towards environment automation and management, alongside a commitment to continuous improvement.

You will collaborate within an agile development framework. Your duties will include the design and execution of application builds, releases, deployments, and configuration tasks.

Your responsibilities will involve engaging with internal stakeholders to gather requirements, prototyping, and architecting intricate solutions that support the development and execution of test plans, conducting quality assessments, and resolving operational challenges.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the capability to take ownership of complex problems and drive towards effective solutions while thriving in a collaborative environment.

A solid understanding of the software development lifecycle is essential, along with comprehensive knowledge of automated testing to facilitate and analyze extensive data sets.

The Software Engineer will be tasked with developing, modifying, and maintaining both customized and standardized applications, adhering to software engineering best practices and standards, and participating in the complete software development lifecycle, which includes requirements gathering, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to take ownership of challenging issues and drive towards resolution while providing leadership throughout the implementation process.

A thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle and extensive knowledge of automated testing is critical for analyzing large data sets.

The Software Engineer will engage in all phases of software development, encompassing requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.

The Software Engineer will apply technical expertise to resolve complex integration challenges. The Software Engineer will interact with Program Management, external suppliers, and/or government clients. Therefore, exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. A strong background in bash scripting, C/C++, or other object-oriented programming languages within a Linux environment is required. The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance and Special Program Access is mandatory.

Essential Functions:
Able to travel 50% of the time. Full lifecycle design, implementation, and unit testing of software. Apply extensive technical expertise and possess comprehensive knowledge of related disciplines.

Provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex and challenging problems that are imaginative, thorough, practical, and aligned with program objectives.

In-depth understanding and broad application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the relevant field.

Design, develop, document, test, and debug applications software and systems that incorporate logical and mathematical solutions.

Conduct multidisciplinary research as necessary and collaborate with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for products.

Work with various team members to integrate functionality with other software components. Provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex and challenging problems. Solutions should be imaginative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organizational objectives. Support the gathering and reporting of software metrics. Adhere to program software best practices. Develop software products throughout all phases of the software lifecycle. Demonstrate the ability to work independently and identify solutions to complex challenges. Represent the organization as the primary technical contact on contracts and projects. Interact with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • (Principal Engineer Software) bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 5 or more years of experience in software engineering OR a Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 3 or more years of experience in software engineering.
  • Development experience with C/C++ or other OOP languages.
  • Experience developing software in a Linux and Windows environment.
  • Experience with debugging software in both the desktop and target environments.
  • Experience with software or systems testing.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Agile software development.
  • Experience with configuration management using industry-standard tools and processes.
  • Able to travel 50% of the time.

Salary Range:
$92,600 - $139,000. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
