POSITION SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Operations Supervisor is accountable for managing production staff, machinery, and materials to ensure compliance with customer quality expectations and timelines. This role requires effective communication with other departmental leaders and encompasses various related responsibilities. The supervisor will guide department heads and engage with them regularly to enhance workforce productivity. Investment in training, advanced technology, and equipment is essential. The supervisor will also oversee the quality of raw materials concerning their suitability for production. Establishing benchmarks, protocols, and objectives is crucial for assessing production expenses and employee efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains production schedules to fulfill customer timelines by effectively utilizing equipment and workforce. Authorizes overtime and leave as required.
- Ensures the maintenance and repair of all production machinery: receives daily updates from supervisors regarding equipment status; coordinates significant repairs with sales and production to avoid customer deadline disruptions; confirms with supervisors that all mechanical and electrical safety measures are functional at all times; requests external maintenance and equipment through the purchasing manager as necessary; guarantees that all safety devices and guards are operational consistently.
- Monitors production schedules and communicates with sales teams regarding delayed projects.
- Directs the activities of production staff: assigns daily tasks along with short- and long-term objectives; addresses procedural and technical inquiries; meets with production staff individually and collectively to resolve issues; reviews all production documentation daily and forwards it to the relevant supervisor; assesses completed work and ongoing projects for quality; evaluates employee performance and determines salary adjustments; mediates conflicts within and between departments.
- Oversees production staff and department managers: responsible for hiring, training, evaluating, and terminating personnel.
- Provides technical support: stays updated on new products, materials, and technologies by reading industry publications, attending workshops, and visiting supplier facilities; offers feedback on problematic materials, supplies, and equipment to production, purchasing, and sales teams; delivers technical information and in-plant training to staff.
- Prepares and manages the annual budget: drafts the yearly budget for executive review; discusses monthly expenditures with supervisors; meets with suppliers to obtain samples of materials; analyzes supply usage, explores cost-reduction strategies, and seeks to enhance productivity and quality.
- Completes additional tasks as assigned by the executive leadership.
