At Gundersen Lutheran-Harmony, we're seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy services. Your primary responsibility will be to assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications to patients. This will involve reading medication orders, preparing labels and bags, calculating quantities, and compounding sterile and non-sterile products.

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will also be responsible for participating in medication dispensing and delivery while maintaining our pharmacy's medication management and infection control procedures, policies, and regulations. You will be assigned to a specific area of practice and will be responsible for the defined responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician Trainee.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Providing customer service to patients and Gundersen Health System staff, including triaging of phone calls and non-clinical medication-related questions.
  • Obtaining accurate information from patients, including personal and insurance information, and efficiently entering information into the computer system.
  • Participating in the Transition of Care programs implemented in the Pharmacy.
  • Following expectations of the Pharmacy Technician Tech-Check program.
  • Handling controlled substances following all policies, SOPs, and regulatory statutes.
  • Ownership of inventory control for all inventory locations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technology-related processes and equipment.
  • Preparing and mixing non-sterile preparations for distribution to patients.
  • Aseptically preparing and mixing sterile preparations for distribution to patients.
  • Aseptically preparing and mixing hazardous medications for distribution to patients.
  • Assisting with the training of Pharmacy Technician Trainees and Pharmacy Technicians.
  • Assisting with maintaining cleanliness in the department to guarantee sterility with appropriate measures.
  • Adhering to regular and predictable attendance.
  • Personally interacting, engaging with, and caring for patients.
  • Ensuring patient safety.
  • Performing other job-related responsibilities as requested by pharmacists, support staff, and leadership.

Requirements for this role include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency and completion of an Accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program or equivalent pharmacy technician experience.
  • 3 months of pharmacy experience (desired 1 year of experience).
  • Registration with the Wisconsin Dept. of Safety & Professional Services (WIRPhT) and certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) if working in Wisconsin.
  • Registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy (MNRPhT) and certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) if working in Minnesota.
  • Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy (IARPhT) and certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) if working in Iowa.

This role is categorized as Category I - Employees in this job title have a reasonably anticipated risk of occupational exposure to blood and/or other potentially infectious materials.

Environmental conditions for this role include not being substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (as in typical office or administrative work).

Physical requirements and demands of the position include:
