About the Position
The Department of Comparative Literature at the University of California, Berkeley, is seeking applications for a pool of non-tenure-track lecturers. This is a part-time, non-tenure-track position that will be used to staff various courses in the Department of Comparative Literature.
Teaching Responsibilities
We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach/co-teach small or medium-sized courses in the following areas:
- Reading and Composition
- Comparative Literature
- American Cultures/Comparative Literature
General Duties
In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include:
- Holding office hours
- Assigning grades
- Advising students
- Preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus)
- Maintaining a course website
Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application):
- Must have an advanced degree or be enrolled in an advanced degree program at time of application
Additional qualifications (required at time of start):
- Advance degree is required by the start date
Preferred qualifications:
- PhD (or equivalent international degree) and relevant college-level teaching experience in the U.S.
- Documented ability to work with texts in more than one language is also required by the start date
- If hired to teach Reading & Composition, demonstrated experience teaching reading and writing in English
