Surgical Instrument Technician

Position Overview:

The Surgical Instrument Technician plays a vital role in the Surgery Department by ensuring the proper care, maintenance, and availability of surgical instruments and operating rooms. This position does not require prior experience, as comprehensive training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Board-Certified Surgeons to ascertain their instrument requirements for various procedures.
  • Understand the maintenance and storage needs of surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain organization of instruments to ensure readiness for use.
  • Prepare our three operating rooms with the necessary instrument packs, monitoring equipment, anesthesia machines, intravenous fluids, and more as instructed.
  • Perform cleaning of the operating rooms following each surgical procedure.
  • Clean instruments, wrap instrument packs, and sterilize both instruments and packs.
  • Prepare cages for post-operative patients.
  • Clean cages and kennels as required.
  • Handle surgical laundry duties.
  • Assist technicians as necessary.
  • Demonstrate the ability to stand for extended periods, kneel, and lift up to 25 kg independently, as well as support up to 50 kg with assistance.

Compensation and Benefits:

VCA Animal Hospitals offers a competitive salary and benefits package, which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, pet care discounts, paid vacation, holidays, and sick days, along with health and wellness programs that provide valuable resources and training. Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials, with a pay range of $0 to $21 per hour.
