Position Overview:
The Creative Arts Therapist plays a vital role within the interdisciplinary treatment team in the psychiatry department. This position focuses on the development and execution of a therapeutic treatment program tailored for adults experiencing serious mental health challenges, including co-occurring substance use and medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Creative Arts Therapist, you will be responsible for:
- Designing and implementing therapeutic activities that are culturally appropriate and aligned with the needs of clients.
- Managing a caseload and completing designated sections of biopsychosocial assessments.
- Conducting individual and group counseling sessions to assist clients in identifying challenges, exploring solutions, and setting achievable goals.
- Providing expert consultation for complex cases, evaluating social, cognitive, psychological, and physical functioning through creative arts therapy.
- Utilizing various modalities such as art, music, drama, dance, or poetry to help clients achieve their treatment goals.
- Contributing to the formulation of individualized treatment plans and monitoring progress towards creative arts therapy objectives.
- Developing and facilitating training programs to introduce innovative techniques within the creative arts therapy field.
- Instructing and supervising volunteers and students in creative arts therapy practices.
- Maintaining inventory of supplies and preparing requisitions as needed.
- Documenting progress, maintaining attendance logs, and participating in quality assurance initiatives.
- Representing the department at relevant conferences and community events.
- Functioning as a primary therapist within the scope of professional competency.
- Participating in crisis management training and support.
- Performing additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
- A valid License or Limited Permit from the New York State Education Department to practice as a Creative Arts Therapist.
- For higher assignment levels, relevant professional experience in creative arts therapy is required.
