About the Role

We are seeking a skilled CNC Machinist/Operator to join our team at ABEC. As a key member of our manufacturing team, you will be responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and understand setup sheets, specifications, and drawings to determine setup procedures, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work pieces.
  • Attach fixtures to machines and position and secure work pieces in fixtures according to setup instructions.
  • Select and install proper cutting tools.
  • Load programs in machine control units or enter commands to retrieve machine instructions from databases.
  • Manipulate controls and enter commands to index cutting tools to specified set points and start machines.
  • Observe and listen to machine operations to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Change cutting tools and locations of work pieces during machining processes as specified in instructions.
  • Measure and inspect first work pieces for conformance to specifications and quality standards.
  • Machine high-tolerance components to drawing specifications using primarily lathes and milling machines.
  • Fabricate specialty parts.
  • Recommend improvements.
  • Conduct operations in a safe manner.
  • Maintain machines.
  • Follow all safety rules and policies.
  • Execute other tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to travel when required.
  • Will play an active role in identifying and driving Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years in Machine Shop Environment preferred.
  • 2 years' experience in Mechanical Field.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Typical work is in a manufacturing environment or customer's site.
  • Required to stand for long periods of time and may involve heavy manual labor.
  • You will need to be able to stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, reach, lift, push, pull, and carry items.
  • Exposure to loud noises.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
  • Awareness of and prior experience with implementing Continuous Improvement (CI) a plus.
  • Prior Lean/Six Sigma experience a plus.
