Position Overview
The Nurse Aide in Training plays a crucial role in delivering essential daily nursing care to designated patients under the direct oversight of a licensed nurse. This position is vital to ensuring patient safety and supporting the highest possible physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each individual, in alignment with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards set forth by Life Care.
Qualifications and Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Must be currently enrolled in a State-approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, with the ability to work for a continuous period of four (4) months.
- Upon completion of the four (4) month timeframe, the Nurse Aide in Training is required to fulfill the certification criteria to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
- CPR certification is required upon hire or must be obtained during orientation, and it is essential that this certification remains current throughout employment.
Key Competencies
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Patience, tact, a cheerful demeanor, and enthusiasm, along with a readiness to manage challenging patients.
- The ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Knowledge of nursing practices and procedures, as well as the legal and regulatory frameworks governing nursing operations in post-acute care settings.
- Proficiency in implementing and interpreting the objectives, policies, and procedures of the nursing department.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist in lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting patients under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Support patients with personal hygiene tasks, including bathing, grooming, feeding, and toileting.
- Maintain accurate documentation and charting of patient care activities.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and exhibit exceptional customer service and a positive attitude.
- Aid in the safe evacuation of patients when necessary.
- Demonstrate consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Engage in effective communication and collaboration within an interdisciplinary team.
- Perform physical tasks such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, walking, reaching, and moving throughout the workday.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.
- Capable of lifting 35 lbs. from floor to waist, lifting 35 lbs. from waist to shoulder, carrying 35 lbs., and pushing/pulling 35 lbs.
