Job Title: Direct Support Professional

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team at The Burton Center For Disabilities & Special Needs.

Job Summary:

The Direct Support Professional will implement an effective vocational training program for adults with disabilities and special needs, providing direct care and support to individuals in our care.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist individuals with self-help skills, including toileting, eating, and personal care.
  • Implement facilitated plans to promote independence and self-advocacy.
  • Monitor individuals and complete monthly progress reports on all objectives.
  • Keep daily payroll sheets of work accomplished and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist in the evaluation and placement of individuals for various jobs and vocational training programs.
  • Transport individuals to and from Burton Center and on field trips, ensuring safe and timely arrival.
  • Report malfunctions and incidents immediately to the transportation supervisor.
  • Supervise individuals during preprogram breaks, lunch, and special activities, promoting a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Provide one-on-one care to individuals as required, following their individualized plan of care.
  • Attend initial staff orientation, in-services, and workshops to enhance job performance and stay up-to-date on best practices.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • One-year experience in working with individuals with disabilities and special needs preferred.
  • Valid SC driver's license.
  • Clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 25lbs frequently and 50lbs occasionally, and to stand or walk for long periods.

Physical Requirements:

The Direct Support Professional will be required to assist individuals in a workshop setting, including feeding and toileting, and to drive and transport individuals, including those with wheelchairs.
