Electronics Assembly Specialist

Job Overview:
- Engages in a variety of tasks based on verbal or detailed written directives to construct, disassemble, rework, or repair surface mount and/or through-hole printed circuit board assemblies, flex circuits, sub-assemblies, and electronic mechanical assemblies.
- Responsibilities encompass (but are not limited to) board and component preparation, printed circuit board assembly, manual soldering of components, and box-building activities.
- Conducts modifications, upgrades, or removal and replacement of electro-mechanical and surface mount components.
- Operates machinery for soldering, desoldering, pressing, shaping, winding, or placing component parts.
- Utilizes cleaning devices, solutions, and abrasives to clean and degloss parts.
- Performs intermediate assembly tasks, including conformal coating, potting, encapsulating, sanding, cleaning, bonding, curing, stamping, etching, impregnating, and color-coding of parts and assemblies.
- May carry out informal self-checks on manufactured items before submitting them for formal inspection and testing to validate product quality and acceptance.
- May assemble cabinets, chassis, consoles, or similar devices using manual, electronic, or electro-mechanical equipment, and assist other job classifications as directed.
- Required to interpret process routings, wiring diagrams, and similar production planning documents.
- Familiarity with data collection and analysis for Statistical Process Controls is beneficial.
- Engages in other necessary activities as assigned and demonstrates competencies to meet business needs.
- May serve as a member or leader of a functional or cross-functional team.
Experience Required:
- Two years of experience in the assembly, rework, or repair of electronic equipment, including circuit cards with surface mount and through-hole components, is preferred but not mandatory.
Knowledge Required:
- Practical knowledge in areas such as electronic component identification, ability to follow routing instructions, and interpretation of mechanical and electrical schematics is essential.
- Previous training in industry soldering and assembly standards (IPC– 610, IPC-620, IPC– 7711, and/or J-STD-001) and experience in Electronic Worker Cable & Chassis and Circuit Card positions is advantageous.
- Solder verification for fine pitch is required, including familiarity with IPC 7711 Rework procedures.
Education Required:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Essential Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Maximum weight handling will comply with Environmental Safety and Health regulations.
- Most tasks are performed in a seated position, with occasional duties requiring standing, kneeling, or squatting.
- Good eyesight and color differentiation ability are necessary.
Special Requirements:
- This position involves the use of solvents, flux, thinners, and other cleaning agents.
- Visual aids such as magnification lenses, binocular microscopes, and specific personal safety equipment may be necessary.
- Secret security clearance may be required.
- Ability to achieve and maintain appropriate solder certifications is essential.
