Assistant Director of Doctoral Research

Mentor Role:

  • Provide individualized support and guidance to doctoral students, including biweekly or weekly meetings and research labs.
  • Serve as chair of the dissertation committee, ensuring that students receive comprehensive feedback and support.
  • Review and assist with IRB applications, publication readiness, and professional presentations.
  • Monitor professional organizations and opportunities for students, and provide discipline-specific mentorship.

Participation in Committees:

As an Assistant Director of Research, you will be expected to participate in committees within your department and across the college, including reading dissertation drafts, attending research proposals, and participating in defenses.

Teaching:

You will be responsible for teaching 4 courses annually, at least 2 of which will be doctoral courses. This will provide you with the opportunity to share your expertise and experience with students, and to contribute to the development of the next generation of educators.

Research and Scholarship:

We value and encourage research and scholarship, and expect our Assistant Directors of Research to engage in professional dissemination, including presentations, publications, and podcasts. This will be determined within each discipline and evaluated annually.

Qualifications:

  • Doctorate required
  • Prior higher education experience preferred
  • Proven publishing record
  • Published research
  • Knowledge of a variety of research methodologies
  • Previous experience in assessing quality of writing
  • Previous experience in mentoring teacher candidates or teachers
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a range of stakeholders
  • Familiarity with online course platforms, LMS, data systems
  • Familiarity with Google Suite including Calendar, Sheets, Docs, and Folders
