Job Summary:
The Event Specialist plays a crucial role in the operations and management of events, focusing on the organization, support, and execution of various activities within the Student Union.
This role involves overseeing, guiding, and training student staff, including building managers, set-up crews, and event service representatives.
Strong organizational, leadership, and supervisory skills are essential for success in this position.
The Event Specialist is responsible for designing, implementing, and assessing procedures and policies to ensure meticulous and efficient work processes, which ultimately enhance customer satisfaction.
Effective delegation of facility-related services is a key responsibility, requiring monitoring and verification through checklists and reports.
Additionally, this position ensures the timely and accurate production of reports related to nighttime, theater, and ballroom activities.
Shared responsibilities include the setup, design, preparation, and dismantling of events held in meeting rooms.
Maintenance and management of physical resources, such as tables, chairs, and audio/visual equipment, are also critical aspects of this role.
Seasonal variations in work hours are expected, with operational hours changing during summer, breaks, and holidays.
Flexibility in scheduling may be required to accommodate the demands of meetings and events.
This position may involve high-pressure situations and potential interactions with guests that require professionalism and composure.
Physical demands include proper ergonomics, the ability to lift heavy items, and standing for extended periods.
Education & Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
A High School diploma or GED with four years of relevant experience, or two years of post-secondary education with two years of related experience.
Experience with audio-visual equipment is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality, or a related field is preferred.
Six years of customer service experience, along with exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, are also desired.
Experience in managing full-time employees is advantageous.
